Lower School
At Foundation Academy, students in grades pre-K through 5th grade attend art classes once a week throughout the year. They are given the freedom to express themselves through a variety of mediums in both 2-D and 3-D, while incorporating a basic understanding of the elements of art and principles of design.
Upper School
In the upper school, middle school students may select art as an elective which meets for either a quarter, or a semester. High school students, who select art as an elective, take the class for the entire year. Advanced level students may select the Honors Art class which is a portfolio prep class. The art experience at Foundation Academy is challenging but non-threatening. It is a supportive atmosphere that encourages creative trial and error. All the classes in the upper school are designed to enhance students understanding of the elements of art and principles of design, while providing them the opportunity to explore a wide range of materials applicable to drawing, painting, graphics, clay, mixed media and sculpture. Art history is incorporated in projects throughout the year and geared toward the specific project we are working on.
