2017 Best of Show
Our students have made winning Best of Show at the Florida ACSI Art Competition an annual tradition. On Friday, March 3rd, Macy Glance (12th Grade) and Josh Zigan (11th Grade) both tied for Best of Show at the High School 2-D level. And Tyler Tomeck (8th Grade) won Best of Show for Middle School 2-D! FA has now won Best of Show for High School 2-D for eight years and Best of Show for Middle School 2-D for two years!
Superior Awards included Macy Glance (12th Grade), Adriana Jessup (11th Grade), and Madison Morris (12th Grade). Excellent Awards included Delaney Sharp (12th Grade), Dylan Good (12th Grade), Cynthia Hall (12th Grade), Madison Morris (12th Grade), Emma McIntyre (12th Grade), Samantha Wilbur (12th Grade), Josh Zigan (11th Grade), Della Odom (8th Grade), Katie Hoenstine (8th Grade), and Rachel Hipskind (8th Grade). Good Awards included Samantha Wilbur (12th Grade) and Delaney Sharp (12th Grade).
Mary Ellen Murray, an Upper School Art Instructor, had this to say about the achievement: “Every year after the show, art teachers, parents, and judges ask me the same question, ‘How did you teach your students to draw so well, and shade so beautifully?’ The answer is very simple. We take a classical approach to teaching art which focuses on the Elements of Art and Principles of Design–and combine that with the creative genius of God that, as His children, we really do have access to. Each art class begins in prayer, where we open our hearts and minds to His divine wisdom. Prayer really does change the atmosphere around us and within us.”
We are so thankful to have teachers like Mrs. Murray at FA who invite prayer into the classroom and into the creative process. Congratulations to all of our art teachers and students for this incredible honor!
