This week Luca (3rd grade) opened our chapel time at the Lower School, and our 6th grade Music Crew led worship. The 1st graders really got into the silly song, “Making Melodies!” After our worship time together, Pastor Will continued teaching about our theme of forgiveness through the story of the prodigal son found in Luke 15. Mason (5th grade) and Owen (6thgrade) both assisted Pastor Will by drawing sketches of the two sons in the story.
We learned that the father in this story is a picture of our Heavenly Father. God waits patiently, with loving compassion to restore us when we return to him with humble hearts. Bitterness and resentment keep the older son (who is a picture of the Pharisees) from forgiving his younger brother. It blinds him to the treasure he freely enjoys through constant relationship with the father.
This story definitely spoke to our theme of forgiveness, and we look forward to learning more together as the month continues!
