Lower School Chapel: Humility
This week during chapel we sang “Happy Birthday” to Pastor Will, and Mrs. Whitehead presented him with a gift to show our appreciation for him teaching us every week. Then, our prayer warrior T.J. (3rd grade) opened our time in prayer.
This month’s theme is humility–putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve. A verse that helps us better understand humility comes from Philippians 2:3. “Don’t do anything only to get ahead. Don’t do it because you are proud. Instead, be humble. Value others more than yourselves.” (NIRV) This verse is part of a passage that describes Jesus’ humility. Jesus left everything He deserved and humbled Himself to save us. As we respond to Jesus’ love, we can show humility as we love those around us.
Pastor Will closed our chapel today by asking that we all take a moment to kneel before our Lord and Savior as he thanked Jesus for what He has done for us. As we celebrate Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection this Easter season, we’ll be taking a closer look at the way humility shows up throughout the end of Jesus’ time on earth.
