Upper School Awards, 7th & 8th Grade

DSC_0950On Tuesday, May 16th, we held our Upper School Award Ceremony for 7th and 8th grade students! Our scripture reading came from 1 Peter 4: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

DSC_0931Our ceremony began with Jay G receiving recognition for the SOAR Award, sponsored by the West Orange Chamber of Commerce. The SOAR award acknowledges students of achievement and renown who have shown initiative, good citizenship, commitment and personal growth in the classroom. Congratulations, Jay!

Next, we recognized students who participated in the 2016-2017 Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP). We had a total of six 7th grade students who were identified as academically promising based on their SAT standardized test scores earned while attending middle school this year: Aaron A, Bowman B, Grayson F, Ian G, Mckenna K, and Johann C. Johann’s scores also qualified him for state recognition! Congratulations to all are Duke TIP students!

DSC_0933Our artists took the stage next. Mikayla S and Della O both received Honorable Mention at the Winter Park Art Festival, and Tyler T earned Best of Show at the ACSI Art Festival. Also, Katie H, Della O, and Rachel H all received Excellent ribbons at the ACSI Art Festival. We are so proud of all our young artists!

Our young mathematicians were honored next. This year, we had ten students participate in the ACSI Math Olympics, with six of our students placing in the competition! The participants included Alexander U, Shawn C, Nicholas B, Nicholas F, Rebecca L, Grayson M, Cameron E, Laurence S, Mikayla S, and Irina L. Congratulations!

DSC_0941We then welcomed our Honor Roll students–Bronze, Silver, and Gold–to the stage. These students achieved the highest grade point averages in their academic studies, and we are so proud of them. Immediately following our Honor Roll awards, we recognized the FA Lamp of Learning awards. This distinction is given to one student per course offered this year. These young scholars consistently worked hard in class, always gave their best, and participated on a regular basis. We are so proud of all of you!

DSC_0944The next group of students recognized were those who earned the Academic Scholar Award. This went to the students in each grade level who maintained the highest GPA on their report card for the entire school year. Kyle B, Bowman B, Alexander B, Johann C, Grayson F, Ian G, Rebecca L, Victoria L, and Dylan T represented the 7th grade class. And Sofia B, Kyrie D, Lauren E, Cameron E, Chase H, Rachel H, Haley K, Zach L, Irina L, Sydney M, Jack M, Grayson M, Grace S, Mikayla S, and Tyler T represented the 8th grade class. Congratulations, scholars!

Our ceremony then included recognizing Taylor A with the Community Service Award. Taylor documented 186 hours of service this year alone! And our Servant’s Heart Award went to Ella C. Ella earned this award for her exceptional “service to school and community.” We are so proud of you, Taylor and Ella! DSC_0947

Proverbs 28:1 says: “the unrighteous flee when no one is chasing them; but the godly are as bold as lions.” The next honor, the Lion Award, was given to one student from each grade level who is as bold as a lion and exhibits leadership, initiative, outreach, and whose Christian testimony exhibits love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Our 2017 LION Award recipients are Gray F (7th grade) and Josie G (8th grade). Congratulations to these two special students who truly embody what it means to be a Foundation Lion!

DSC_0949To close our ceremony, we recognized our 8th grade students who have all worked diligently to prepare for 9th grade. This class stood and faced their family, friends, teachers, and administrators as the Class of 2021! We are so excited for all our 7th and 8th grade students–we look forward to amazing things from them in the years to come at Foundation Academy!
