Guatemalan Teachers at FA!
This past summer, School President Dave Buckles traveled to Guatemala on a mission trip. While there, he toured Prince of Peace Home for Girls. This Home provides “a safe haven for orphaned, abandoned, abused and neglected girls.” In 2016, this ministry opened a school for the girls in their care, and it is this educational element that sparked something in the heart of Mr. Buckles.
“God put it in my heart to invest in the teachers,” he explained. “I wanted to invest in these teachers because I knew the effects would be far-reaching.” And that is exactly what’s happening this week on both campuses! The School Director and a teacher at Prince of Peace–Karla Coronado and Sofia Mendez–are here, learning more about our approach to education.
On Wednesday, the teachers spent the day with our Technical Director John Grosshans. Mr. Grosshans highlighted different ways technology can enhance a student’s educational experience. Specifically, they worked with Google Chromebooks. And we are gifting the Home with two teacher Chromebooks and two student Chromebooks as they continue to incorporate technology with the girls.
Mr. Buckles hopes the partnership between Foundation and Prince of Peace grows and expands over time. “My goal is to eventually send FA teachers to the Home for a few weeks at a time as a mission trip,” he said. While there, FA teachers would work with and train the Guatemalan teachers. “Investing in teachers is a profound way to impact a culture.”
We look forward to future trips and all God has to teach us and others through this partnership! “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 NIV
