My husband Joshua and I met while staffing at a church summer camp. We both share a passion for teaching and a love for God! Hey, my name is Mike Brown, and I am so excited to have the privilege to teach at Foundation! I will be on the Tilden campus this upcoming year molding the minds of high school AP world history and AP psychology students. Before starting my teaching career, of which this is my seventh year, I attended UCF and obtained a master’s degree in Applied Learning and Instruction, and a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences Education. I am married to an exceptionally awesome woman by the name of Stephanie, who is currently pregnant with what will be our first child. In my free time, I am an avid rock climber, reader, surfer, video game player, swimmer, and volleyball player. I’m exceptionally pumped to begin another year of teaching at Foundation Academy, and I am flattered that this school’s leadership has chosen into me.
“Our oldest daughter (a rising 5th grader) has been a student at Foundation Academy since K5. She has been and still is obsessed with this school. Her love for FA became contagious, and I started to see and feel the same way she does. I fell in love with Foundation Academy for many reasons, such as the smaller class sizes, their exceptional academic standards, their kind staff, and most importantly, their love for Christ. We love it so much here that my husband and I enrolled our youngest daughter, who will officially be joining the “Lion” family as a Pre-K4 student this fall.
Let’s start in September 2018. I was a substitute teacher for the following classes: K3 – 12th grade, PE, Computers, Multi-media, the nurse, and even in the office. In December 2018, after multiple signs and wonders from the Lord, I realized that teaching is my calling/spiritual gift. I realized I had a genuine love for the students, faculty, and staff, as I found myself doing the following: praying for them as much as I prayed for my family, encouraging the students to focus on their learning goals, studying the lesson plan so I could present it with confidence and creativity, spending extra time with the students until they had a clear understanding of their lesson, and attending their home games, graduations and plays to cheer them on from the sideline. After all, I became one of their biggest fans.
My goal as a teacher is for ALL my students to help them so they can extend past their zone of proximal development. I want my students to embrace learning in a meaningful and fun way. Most importantly, I want to share the Love of Christ with them

I am excited for my first year at Foundation and cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store for the school and me this year.
I grew up in a rural town in southern Illinois. After high school, I played football at the University of Illinois on a football scholarship. In my sophomore year at U of I, we were Big Ten Champions, and I played in the Sugar Bowl. After college, I enlisted in the Army as a Combat Engineer.” Mr. Haywood served in 3 deployments to Iraq, two deployments to the Philippines, and tours in both Germany and Korea. He finished his ten-year military career as a Personnel Officer.
“I am very excited about teaching P.E. at the Foundation Academy. I love Biblical history as well as viewing what’s going on in the world through a Christian lens. I get pretty fired up about my relationship with Jesus and doing what I can for His purpose, so I am extremely excited about speaking in chapel and helping in the spiritual development of our students in addition to P.E.
“My wife Asha and I have two sons who are students at FA. Daniel is in 2nd grade, and Elijah is in Kindergarten.”
“I enjoy scuba diving, and I am PADI certified…I love to dive in the different springs throughout Central Florida as well as catch lobsters during season. I love traveling (and have traveled to 40 different countries) as well as whitewater rafting and exploring different waterfalls.”

I have spent the last three years teaching middle school and coaching basketball and football at Orangewood Christian in Maitland, FL.
In my free time, I enjoy working out, spending time with family and friends, watching sports, and playing board games. I am excited to join the Foundation Academy family, as I know how much the school looks to make a difference for Christ in the community.
