One of our favorite days of the year is when the Orlando Solar Bears visit the Lower School. Mrs. Douglass, one of our 5th grade teachers, coordinates their visit each year. This was their fourth year in a row visiting FA! Each visit, several players come and read books to each grade level.
This year’s visit was a very special one. The Orlando Solar Bears organization reached out to FA before the visit and asked if they could feature us for their upcoming school day game! During the school day game, they promote academics throughout the game and every student receives a booklet filled with activities that touch on all subject matters. (This game is one of our yearly 5th grade field trips.) Foundation Academy was their featured location for promoting the game!
Our 5th grade students not only got to meet and receive autographs from the visiting players, but they also were able to see news reporters in action! One of the big highlights from the Solar Bears being there was player Brady Shaw. His mother has written a series of children’s books titled Brady Brady. In the Brady Brady book that was read to 5th grade, students learned the importance of being kind and generous to others.
Students also learned that Brady Brady books are approved for Accelerated Reader, so don’t be surprised when you hear of requests for the next Brady Brady book! Thank you, Mrs. Douglass, for coordinating this event for our students each year. Thank you to the Solar Bears for being a highlight of the year at our Lower School!
